About Me

After a media career in London I chose to move to Cornwall and retrain as a therapeutic counsellor. My modality is predominantly a humanistic person-centered approach, offering a confidential, non-judgemental practice.

The counselling process is an exploration of awareness, in a safe place without judgement. The therapist/client bond of trust enables each client to rediscover themselves - whoever that might be. With the right set of conditions: empathy, honesty, and non-judgemental, with complete confidentiality, a person is able to reconcile and mend emotionally becoming self-reliant*.

As a qualified counsellor I accept whatever a client brings into the room. Person-centred counselling can support anxiety and depression, bereavement, addictions, relationship difficulties, traumatic stress related disorders, as well as trauma from historic or ongoing abuse. Nevertheless, for certain clients, some behaviours resulting from their cognition problems can also be progressed using complimentary psychotherapeutic modalities like  CBT techniques.

Domestic Abuse - Cornwall

I work with Domestic Abuse (DA) in a leading DA agency supporting woman with historic and ongoing traumatic life circumstances. Consequently, I have particular experience with some of the most extreme domestic abuse (both physical and psychological) and long term sexual abuse cases - often resulting in Traumatic Stress Related Disorders, Depression and Anxiety.

I do not diagnose, as a counsellor I acknowledge my client’s presenting issues. And accept that we all have a natural psychological need to be a ‘fully functioning’ person. What and how this materialises is influenced by our unique past life circumstances, that have and may still create sets of internal core beliefs both negative and positive that affect our everyday lives, probably without understanding how or why.

*Person-centred theory describes a self-reliant person as someone open to experiences in a non-defensive way, who takes every day in their stride and learns from it - adapting to life’s changes. One that avoids attacking inwardly, self-deprecating. Existentially living in the moment, able to explain ‘realness’ and be truly honest about their emotional responses. Someone that trusts their own instincts and doesn’t feel the need to justify themselves. Has freedom of choice and uses it, trusting to make their own decisions with their own reliable monitoring system accepting the results because it was their choice - being resilient. Able to be creative: expressing an inner feeling without inhibition, striving to fulfil creative impulses in whatever guise, without restraint. Not set in their ways. Able to be relied upon and trusted to act constructively. An individual who is open to all their own needs and able to maintain a honest balance between them. To exist boldly, challenging, living life to the full, at full speed, or not - because you choose to, not because someone else does.

“The process of the good life… means launching oneself fully into the stream of life” (Rogers, 1961).

If you are struggling at the moment and any of these issues or aspirations resonate with you, then counselling could be a way forward for you.

I practice Face-to-Face in Porth, however, current distancing protocols make remote On-line (Zoom), Telephone, email or ‘Walk & Talk’ options more favourable. In FAQs you can find answers to some regularly asked questions, including my fee structure. For further information or to make an appointment go to the ‘Contact’ below and I’ll get back to you within 2-3 working days.

I have a DipCouns in Person-centered counselling, and a Foundation Degree in Counselling. I am a registered, insured Member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework. And am currently completing ongoing training in CBT-L5 techniques.

If you in distress and require immediate psychological support contact the Samaritans free from any phone 116 123.
