Direct answers to frequently asked questions

Does Counselling work?

Yes, but not for everybody. Evidence proves the client’s level of desire (motivation) to find answers is fundamental to the therapeutic process.

How much does it cost?

Face to face, telephone, online (Zoom) and ‘Walk & Talk’ 50 min. sessions cost £45. The first session explores the goals. Initial therapy agreement usually starts with 6-8 sessions, this number is reviewed, assessed and extended as part of the Therapy Agreement between the therapist and the client.

Email services are charged per email at £20 per email (responses are limited to a maximum of 1000 words). These sessions are pre-bookable in batches of five emails.

Late cancellations (within 48hrs of appointment) or missed sessions are charged at the full rate (as per above). Terms and conditions of pre-payments are available on request.

What happens in our first session?

A simple questionnaire will be sent prior to the first session for me to understand the circumstances bringing you to counselling, with a copy of my Therapy Agreement for you to read describing how each session works. The first session will be a 'get to know you'  to establish if we both feel this could be successful collaboration.

How can I book and pay?

To book an appointment the button below takes you to a contact page. Dates and availability will agreed by tel/email. Pre-payemt is required by PayPal or BACS. Details will be given with confirmed dates.

Can I call you at any time?

No. The therapeutic relationship has clear boundaries. The therapy is undertaken during pre-arranged sessions. However, I will respond to texts or emails if they require immediate attention within 48hrs. If you are unsafe, contact the police. There is also a helpline page link below.

What will people think?

Stigma continues to be one of the reasons people put off getting help. The therapy room is very discreet, and appointments are spaced to avoid (where possible) clients overlapping. And first and foremost confidentiality is key to all sessions. It is the client’s choice to share or not whether they are attending/participating in therapeutic counselling.

I have a disability?

There is a ramp, however, the doorways have raised floor sills. With prior warning, arrangements will be made to try and accommodate all client’s needs.

I don’t speak English can you help?

As a third person in the room can both inhibit and introduce bias, it is preferable to work with a bilingual counsellor. We can refer clients on to therapists with fluent French, Italian, German, Gujerati, Hindi and Urdu.
